Royal Copenhagen Old English Sheepdog with cat figurine no. 752

Royal Copenhagen figurine no. 752 depicts an Old English Sheepdog with cat in a quiet and intimate moment. The small porcelain figurine brings together dog and cat in a calm composition, where the long-haired dog is lying down while the cat nestles right up against it. The motif has a warm and homely story, which makes the figurine ideal for both collectors of Royal Copenhagen and for those who are fond of dog figurines, cat figurines and classic Danish porcelain.

Allan Therkelsen has modelled the figurine with an eye for the animals' natural interaction. The Old English Sheepdog's soft, wavy coat is rendered with fine structures in the porcelain, and in the pictures the subdued shades of white, grey and brown can be seen, giving the dog depth and character. The cat is executed in a light, warm tone, and the contrast between the two animals highlights both the motif and the close contact between them. The underglaze gives the surface the sheen and depth that characterise Royal Copenhagen porcelain.

With its dimensions of 5 x 7,5 cm, this is a smaller dog figurine that fits nicely in the display cabinet, on the shelf or as part of a collection of animal figurines in porcelain. The small size also makes it suitable as a gift for a dog lover, cat lover or collector of Royal Copenhagen figurines. The motif appeals to many, because it is not only a pedigree dog in porcelain, but also a little story about security, calm and togetherness.

Older porcelain figurines like this one have a special charm because they bring both history, craftsmanship and personality into the home. It is precisely the type of decorative art and collector's item that can still create joy in a modern interior and at the same time be a sustainable choice when beautiful porcelain is given new life with a new owner.
