Royal Copenhagen Bear and Snake figurine no. 21152 by Knud Kyhn

Royal Copenhagen Bear and Snake figurine no. 21152 by Knud Kyhn is a distinctive stoneware figurine with strong movement and an almost dramatic narrative in its form. The figurine shows an upright bear with raised forepaws, while the snake winds its way up over the powerful, nature-inspired base. The motif has both tension and weight, and it is precisely that balance that makes the figurine a sought-after collector's item for many who are interested in Royal Copenhagen, Knud Kyhn, and Danish stoneware.

Knud Kyhn is known for his animal figurines, in which he manages to give the animals personality and presence without making them rigid or decorative in an overly neat way. This is clearly felt here in the bear's posture, the raised head, and the powerful paws. The snake by the base adds extra life to the motif, and together they create a figurine that appears concentrated and lively when seen from several angles.

The glaze emphasizes the character of the figurine with dark brown shades, light areas, and a greenish sheen, which highlights the deep modeling in the surface. The uneven structure and the powerful shaping suit the motif's wild expression well and give the stoneware a special materiality. It is a figurine that one notices, both because of the motif and because of the way the light plays in the glaze.

As a bear figurine and stoneware figurine, it fits beautifully in a bookcase, on a side table, or in a display cabinet, where it can stand alone or together with other animal figurines and ceramic sculptures. For collectors, item number 21152 is an important identification, and for the design enthusiast, it is a figurine that brings together craftsmanship, nature motif, and Danish design in one work.

Older stoneware figurines often have a special calmness and durability about them. They are created to last, and they bring history, soul, and originality into the home. Choosing a figurine like this is also a way to give classic Danish design new life in a contemporary interior.
