Royal Copenhagen seated pig stoneware figurine no. 21670 Knud Kyhn

Royal Copenhagen stoneware figurine no. 21670 depicts a seated pig in a lively and characterful pose. The figurine is modelled with its hind leg raised up toward its ear, so that it almost looks like it is scratching itself, and that very small movement gives the figurine personality and a warm, humorous expression. It is an animal figurine that quickly catches the eye and adds something earthy and charming to both the collection and the interior.

The expression is simple and at the same time full of life. The dark glaze with warm brownish nuances highlights the pig's rounded shapes, snout, small ears and curled tail. Seen from several angles, the figurine changes character, which makes it ideal for placement on a shelf, in a bookcase, on a desk or as part of a larger collection of Danish animal figurines. It also works well as a gift for someone who is fond of Royal Copenhagen, stoneware or classic Danish design with animals as the motif.

Knud Kyhn is known for his animal figurines, and here one clearly senses the ability to combine naturalism with a freer, softer modelling. The figurine has a calm, organic formal language that suits the stoneware and gives it a special weight and presence. For collectors, figurine number 21670 is an important detail, and for the design enthusiast it is a figurine that fits beautifully among both other stoneware, porcelain and Nordic decorative arts.

Older figurines like this have a special ability to create homeliness and personality. They are made to last, and that is precisely why it makes sense to let good craftsmanship find new life in a modern home. A Royal Copenhagen pig figurine like this is both decorative, collectible and a fine example of Danish ceramic design tradition.
