Bing & Grøndahl calf figurine no. 432 or B&G 1826, Knud Kyhn

This porcelain figurine of a calf from Bing & Grøndahl - Royal Copenhagen is a classic example of Knud Kyhn's vivid and lifelike animal depictions. The figurine shows a young calf in motion with its head bent down toward its leg, as if scratching itself by the ear. This gives the figurine a calm, everyday expression and adds the warmth and observant character that many collectors associate with Danish animal porcelain.

The glazed surface is done in white and brownish shades, which emphasize the natural feel of the motif. The body shape is modeled with soft transitions and fine details in the legs, head, and tail, making the figurine appear both harmonious and lively. At the same time, the underglaze technique gives a glossy, deep surface that suits the motif well and highlights the painted areas in a calm manner.

Knud Kyhn is known for his animal figurines with personality, and this calf is a good choice for collectors of both Bing & Grøndahl, Royal Copenhagen, and Danish design with animals as the motif. The figurine fits beautifully in a collection with other animal figurines, but can also stand alone on the shelf, in the display cabinet, or on the desk, where it adds a touch of Nordic design and history to the home. Older porcelain figurines like this have a special ability to create soul in the interior, and at the same time they are a sustainable choice for those who appreciate good craftsmanship created to last for many years.
