Bing & Grøndahl cat figurine 1553 sitting cat with tail

Bing & Grøndahl figurine no. 1553 depicts a sitting cat in a calm, lifelike moment, where it bends its head down toward the tail and lets the paw follow the movement. The motif has the fine balance that makes classic cat figurines from Bing & Grøndahl so sought-after: a natural animal motif, captured with both calm, personality and character. The soft body shape and the gathered, almost circling posture give the figurine a harmonious expression, which makes it easy to place in the home.

The figurine is designed by Jens Peter Dahl Jensen, who is known for his animal figurines with a sure sense of anatomy and movement. Here this is expressed in the cat's gathered posture, the upright ears and the slightly lowered neck, which give the motif presence. The glaze appears in grayish and warm brownish shades with a white chest, muzzle and paws, which emphasizes the figurine's soft forms and gives it a calm, classic expression.

As a porcelain figurine, this Bing & Grøndahl cat works well both as a standalone decoration and together with other animal figurines in porcelain. It works nicely on a shelf, on a chest of drawers or in a display cabinet, where the light can play in the glossy underglaze. For cat lovers and collectors of Danish porcelain, figurine no. 1553 is an obvious choice, because it combines a popular motif with a recognized name within Danish figurative art.

Older porcelain figurines like this have a special ability to add soul and personality to the home. They are created to last a long time and can still bring joy in modern interiors, whether they are bought as a collector's item, gift idea or as a decorative detail with history.
