Bing & Grøndahl The Little Match Girl figurine no. 1655

Bing & Grøndahl figurine no. 1655 depicts The Little Match Girl in a quiet and touching composition that clearly draws on the well-known fairy tale motif. The figurine sits bent forward on a step by a high wall or chimney, with bare feet, a blue skirt, and a small basket beside her. It is a porcelain figurine with an unusual construction, where the architectural background is an important part of the overall impression.

Ingeborg Plockross-Irminger has created a figurine with great sensitivity in posture and expression. The downcast pose, the simple colours, and the calm design give the motif both weight and presence. It is precisely the type of Bing & Grøndahl figurine that many collectors appreciate: a narrative motif, modelled with an eye for both the human being and the atmosphere.

The porcelain figurine is executed in underglaze, which emphasises the soft transitions in the white, grey, and blue shades. The fine folds in the skirt, the small bare feet, and the basket by her side all help bring the figurine to life, without the expression becoming overworked. As a fairy tale figurine and human figure, it fits well into a collection of classic Bing & Grøndahl figurines, but it can also stand alone as an atmospheric feature in the interior.

For you who appreciate porcelain with a history, this is a figurine with both character and story. Older porcelain figurines like this bring personality into the home and are a beautiful example of how fine craftsmanship can live on from generation to generation. It is well suited as a gift for collectors, for the fairy tale enthusiast, or for you who want classic Danish porcelain art with soul.
