1945 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate, designed by Ove Larsen, has the title The Old Watermill. Bing & Grondahls Christmas plate from 1945 depicts a Danish watermill. As early as in the 12th century the munks used water mills, and in the Middle Ages, it was almost an obligation to utilize the resources of the water. Before the introduction of the steam engine water mills were the most important energy source for industrial production. Today many of the old water mills have been ruined, but the ones that have survived, are in many places be restored to their original shape.
