About the product
1944 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate, designed by Ove Larsen, bears the title The Sorgenfri Castle. Bing & Grondahl's Christmas plate from 1944 depicts Sorgenfri castle near Copen- hagen. This is the place where the Danish king Christian X was held in house arrest during World War II, and the plate may there- fore been seen as a quiet protest against the German occupation. The Sorgenfir castle was built in 1705 by Carl count Ahlefeldt, and from 1703 it has been in the posession of the Royal Family. This castle was the summerresidence of King Christian X and his wife Queen Alexan- drine.
