About the product
1923 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate, designed by Achton Friis, has the title The Royal Hunting Castle. Bing & Grondahl's Christmas plate from 1923 depicts the Hermitage in the Deer Park in Copenhagen. King Christian V enclosed the land for hunting purposes, But King Christian VI built the hunting palace, the Hermitage on the grounds. Eremitage means, in French, secluded summer house. The Hermitage lies in beautiful sur- roundings facing Øresund. The palace was designed by the architect Lauritz de Thurau, who also designed Christiansborg palace, and built in 1734-36. The Hermitage is now owned by the Danish state, and has had a thorough renovation during the years 1979-91.
