About the product
1947 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate, designed by Margrethe Hyldahl, has the title The Dybbol Mill. Bing & Grondahl's Christmas plate from 1947 depicts Dybbøl Mill, which is situated near the border between Denmark and Germany. For many years this mill has been a symbol of Danishness in southern Jutland. For generations Schleswig and Holstein have belonged to Denmark or Germany depending on the outcome of the war of the time, but in 1920 it was decided that people in these areas should vote as to which country they wanted to belong to.North Schlesvig voted for Denmark, whereas the other areas wished to remain German. Dybbøl Mill was built in 1744, it has been ruined and rebuilt several times, and from 1995 exhibitions from the nearby Sønder- borg castle have been on display in the granary and in the mill.
