About the item
Bing & Grøndahl Christmas plate 1957 with the motif The Christmas tree with lights captures some of the most atmospheric aspects of Danish Christmas. Here, Kjeld Bonfils has created a calm and intimate scene, where the eye is led very close to the branches of the decorated Christmas tree. The lit candles stand as small warm points in the blue porcelain, and together with the classic decorations, the motif tells of Christmas Eve's quiet anticipation and tradition-rich moments.

On the plate, you see precisely the details that make the title The Christmas tree with lights so accurate. The glowing Christmas candles sit among the dense fir branches, and beneath them can be glimpsed the familiar Danish Christmas decorations with baubles, a woven Christmas heart and a cornucopia. At the bottom on the front is the text Jule Aften 1957, which emphasizes that this edition is tied to the very highlight of Christmas. The motif has a simplicity that makes it both nostalgic and timeless, and it speaks directly to everyone who loves classic Christmas traditions.

As part of Bing & Grøndahl's famous series, this Christmas plate also holds a special place in Danish design history. The series began in 1895 and was thus the world's first Christmas plate series. Since 1895, a new plate has been released every year, and each edition was produced in a closed production, after which the mold was destroyed after the year's final firing. This makes each individual edition an independent chapter in the series and a fine collector's item for those who follow the editions.

The Christmas plate from 1957 is at the same time more than something you only bring out in December. As the editions are from 1905 onward, it can also be used as a smaller plate, for example for cake or dessert, when you want to add a touch of classic Christmas atmosphere to the table. Hung on the wall, it creates the same warm story in the kitchen, dining room or living room, and as older porcelain with history, it is also a beautiful choice for those who appreciate quality, reuse and design that can live on through generations.
