Mandolin player figurine no. 1600 Bing & Grøndahl

This porcelain figurine of a mandolin player from Bing & Grøndahl captures a quiet and concentrated moment, where the music almost seems as if it can be heard. The figurine depicts a young musician seated on a high stool with the mandolin in his hands, slightly leaning forward and absorbed in his instrument. This gives the figurine a lively and present expression, making it ideal for collectors of music figurines, porcelain figurines and classical Danish figurative art.

The design is executed by Ingeborg Plockross-Irminger, who is known for her atmospheric and finely modelled figurines. Here the motif is kept in calm, subdued shades with white, brown and greyish glaze, which emphasize the figurine's harmonious whole. The seated posture, the slender lines and the fine balance between figurine and stool give the model a calm, almost narrative character.

As Bing & Grøndahl figurine no. 1600, this mandolin player also appeals to collectors who seek specific figurine numbers or works by Ingeborg Plockross-Irminger. It is made of porcelain with underglaze, which helps to highlight the smooth surface and the soft colour transitions. It is precisely this kind of craftsmanship and design that has made older porcelain figurines sought-after collector's items through generations.

A figurine like this fits beautifully in a bookcase, a display cabinet or as part of a collection with musicians, human figures or other classic Bing & Grøndahl porcelain. It adds personality and history to the home and is at the same time a fine example of how older quality design can still create joy in a contemporary interior. For many, vintage porcelain figurines are also a sustainable choice, because one preserves and uses beautiful craftsmanship that has already been created to last.
