Royal Copenhagen English bulldog figurine no. 778, 18x33 cm

This English bulldog from Royal Copenhagen is a figurine with weight, personality and an unusual presence. Knud Kyhn has captured the breed's characteristic expression with great assurance: the low, powerful body, the broad paws, the prominent chest and the thoughtful face with the deep folds. The figurine stands looking forward and close to the ground, as if it is moving ahead with calm determination.

The glaze beautifully emphasizes the model's lively expression. The light body is broken up by dark areas over the head, back and side, and the glossy surfaces highlight both the musculature and the soft transitions in the form. The face is modeled with great sensitivity, so that the bulldog's somewhat serious, almost human expression stands out clearly. This makes the figurine a strong example of Danish animal ceramics and of Knud Kyhn's ability to give animals soul and character.

A Royal Copenhagen dog figurine like this fits beautifully into both classic and modern homes, where it can stand alone as a distinctive collector's item or be included together with other animal figurines in porcelain. For collectors of Knud Kyhn, Royal Copenhagen figurines and dog figurines, model 778 is a sought-after size, not least because it combines decorative strength with a familiar and beloved motif.

Older figurines like this have a special charm because they bring history, craftsmanship and personality into the interior. It is precisely the type of quality object that is created to be preserved and appreciated through generations - and which at the same time is a beautiful choice for those who would like to decorate with design and decorative art with soul.
