About the item
Korsør - Nyborg from 1933 is an atmospheric Bing & Grøndahl Christmas plate, where winter's blue tones meet the story of Denmark as an island kingdom. The motif shows the illuminated Great Belt ferry on the water between the two towns, surrounded by dark silhouettes from harbor and town as well as a quiet starry sky above the scene. It is an unusual Christmas motif, because it is not only about the coziness of the holiday, but also about the connection between regions, people, and journeys through the winter darkness.
That is precisely why Korsør - Nyborg holds a special place in the series. The ferry appears as the natural center of the image with lights in the windows and reflections in the calm water, while the surroundings form a fine frame around the story. The motif contains both movement and calm: a ship on its way, but also a winter evening marked by silence, cold, and anticipation. This makes this edition interesting for both collectors of Christmas plates and for those who appreciate Danish maritime motifs and cultural history.
The Christmas plate is designed by H. Flügenring for Bing & Grøndahl, whose Christmas plate series began as early as 1895 as the world's first Christmas plate series. Since 1895, a new plate has been released every year, and the 1933 edition continues the tradition with a motif that is clearly rooted in Danish everyday life and history. Each edition was produced in a limited number, and after the year's final firing, the mold was destroyed. Therefore, each Christmas plate stands as a completed release with its own story.
As this edition is from 1933, it can also be used as a small plate all year round, for example for cake or dessert. In December, it naturally takes on an extra fine role when the classic blue Christmas motifs come out and create atmosphere on the table or on the wall. At the same time, it is a sustainable pleasure to choose older porcelain with history and quality, created to be preserved and used through generations.
On the front, the year 1933 is clearly visible as part of the decoration, and on the back there are two holes for hanging, so the plate can easily be hung up as part of the Christmas decoration.
