About the item
Copenhagen's Towers is Bing & Grøndahl's Christmas plate from 1995, and this particular vintage has a special place in the history of the series. The motif is linked to the hundredth anniversary of the first Bing & Grøndahl Christmas plate from 1895, which was the world's first Christmas plate series. On the 1995 plate, the gaze therefore returns to Copenhagen and the city's characteristic skyline, seen through a wintry, poetic filter.

On the front, the motif opens up like a view out over the city's towers and domes, where the blue decoration creates a calm and almost dreamlike Christmas Eve atmosphere. In the foreground, Tivoli's entrance is clearly visible, while the city's well-known towers and spires rise behind the darker silhouettes of the trees. At the top of the sky, a single star shines, tying the motif together and emphasizing the quiet, solemn atmosphere. At the bottom of the plate appears the visible text JULE AFTEN 1995, which anchors the motif in this particular vintage.

With Copenhagen's Towers, Jørgen Nielsen has created a Christmas plate that both points backward in the series and stands strongly in its own right. It functions as a modern interpretation of the Copenhagen city motif, where the architecture of the big city meets the atmosphere, memories, and traditions of Christmas. This makes this plate particularly interesting for collectors who appreciate the vintages where motif and history are closely connected.

Like all Bing & Grøndahl Christmas plates, this vintage was issued in a closed production. After the last firing of the year, the mold was destroyed, so that the individual vintage could not later be put back into production. This helps make each plate an independent collector's item with its own story.

From 1905 onward, Bing & Grøndahl's Christmas plates are also suitable for use at the table, and the 1995 vintage can easily be used as a small dessert plate or for Christmas cake. The rest of the year, it is also decorative on the wall, where the classic blue porcelain adds both history and Copenhagen charm to the home.
