About the item
Nøddebo Præstegård is Bing & Grøndahl's Christmas plate from 1992, designed by Jørgen Stensen. The motif brings together many of the images associated with a Danish Christmas: snow-covered roofs, a church in the winter darkness, a bright star in the sky, and the family returning home with the year's Christmas tree. It is an atmospheric Christmas plate, where the story unfolds in the classic blue-and-white porcelain that through generations has made the series beloved among both collectors and Christmas enthusiasts.

On the plate, a horse-drawn sleigh can be seen in front of the vicarage, where the priest and his son are on their way home from the forest with the newly felled tree. In the doorway stands a waiting figure, which gives the motif warmth and life, while the church in the background anchors the scene in the tradition-rich setting around Nøddebo Præstegård. The bare branches, the snow, and the single star above the houses underline the quiet anticipation that belongs to December.

It is precisely for this reason that this edition has a special narrative quality. It depicts not only a building or a winter landscape, but a moment filled with homecoming, community, and the preparations for Christmas Eve. The Christmas plate thus also becomes a small piece of Danish cultural history, where the motif speaks to memories of old Christmas traditions and a simpler, calmer Christmas season.

Bing & Grøndahl's Christmas plates hold a special place in porcelain history because the series began in 1895 as the world's first Christmas plate series. Since then, a new plate has been released every year. Each edition was produced in a limited number, and after the year's final firing, the mold was destroyed so that production could not be resumed later. This makes each release a completed annual edition with its own story and collector interest.

The Christmas plate from 1992 can naturally be hung up as classic Christmas decoration, but it can also be used year-round as a smaller plate, for example for cake or dessert. In December, it is especially lovely to bring out for the Christmas table, where the blue motif adds just the right nostalgic Christmas atmosphere to the table setting. For many, it is also a meaningful gift idea for a collector or for someone who loves Danish porcelain with history, quality, and soul.
