How many plates should I own?
A good rule is to have 12 pieces of each plate in your chosen tableware. That way, you will always have enough clean plates, you can fill the dishwasher optimally, and you can invite relatively many guests for dinner and set the table with a matching set. Of course, that is a high number, but then it's good that there is a large selection of both coffee sets and dinner sets on sale here on the website.

Can the porcelain set go in the dishwasher?
It may come as a surprise, but many of the classic porcelain sets can actually withstand being washed in the dishwasher. As a rule, anything made of underglaze painted porcelain can be washed in the dishwasher. This is because the painting is located underneath the glass-like glaze, which can withstand significantly higher temperatures than if the painting were placed on top of the glaze, which would quickly wear off.
Many of the blue sets are made using the underglaze method and can therefore go in the dishwasher. This applies, for example, to Blue Flower, Blue Line, Christmas Rose, Blue Fluted, and Tranquebar.
Sets that you should not wash in a dishwasher include, for example, Seagull with gold trim, Flora Danica, Royal Albert, and Saxon Flower. In general, porcelain sets with gold trim should be treated with particular care, as the gold trim will wear off in the dishwasher.

What size plate should I choose?
Plates are available in many different sizes. Dessert, cake, and lunch plates are smaller in size than, for example, dinner plates and often have a size of 15 cm to 22 cm.
Dinner plates should be able to hold larger portions of food than the smaller plates typically should, and therefore they are larger with a size of 26 cm to 28 cm.
How should I set the table?
How should the glasses be arranged? In what order should the cutlery be placed? And what about the place cards?

- If you're using a tablecloth, table runner, or placemats, these should be laid out first. - This can be a really good idea, as they protect the table from spills and scratches.
- Place and center the plate you want to use for the main course. This is typically the largest plate you'll need. You can also place a napkin on the plate.
- Now find a smaller plate to use for the starter and place it on top of the main course plate.
- If you're also serving an appetizer or bread with the meal, you can place a side plate to the left of the forks.
- As you may have figured out from step 4, the forks should be placed to the left and the knives to the right of the plates. If you're serving soup, the spoon for this should be placed on the same side as the knives. You should place the cutlery so that the guest starts from the outside and moves towards the plate. The cutlery for the first course is always placed on the outside, and the cutlery for the main course should be closest to the plates.
The blade of the knife should face towards the plate. However, this rule does not apply to the butter knife on the side plate, where the blade should face away from the plate. Dessert spoon, cake fork, and/or cheese knife should be placed above the plates.
- Now it's time to arrange the drinking glasses. Just like with cutlery, start with the glass you'll use first and place it furthest to the right, so the guest works from outside in towards the plates. The order is thus water glass, white wine glass, red wine glass, and finally glass for dessert wine.
- Now it's time to decorate, and there are many options! It can be flowers in beautiful vases, elegant candlesticks, or perhaps mirrored trays decorated uniquely and invitingly. - Yes, the possibilities are endless when it comes to things for the table!
- Finally, you can consider whether to have place cards on the table. For this, you can use beautiful, classic place card holders or you can think outside the box and use other decorations, such as Annual bells or Christmas bells.
A really good tip is to coordinate colors and themes to create a cohesive and elegant table setting. Don't be afraid to mix dishes or think beyond their original function! - You can create many unique table arrangements and use some of the tableware pieces that you may not use as often.
Which tableware should I collect?
If you want to collect a beautiful tableware set, there are some things you should consider. Most importantly, choose a set that you won't get tired of over time and that you're willing to be patient about finding! Collecting a set can be a long-term project and difficult to afford all at once, especially if you fall in love with one of the older porcelain and ceramic sets. 1. Blue Fluted
This beautiful Royal Copenhagen set's pattern is more than 240 years old and is still one of the most sought-after sets today! The tableware is made in both half and full lace and is decorated with a beautiful pattern of a chrysanthemum and a potentilla. It is painted with Royal Copenhagen's signature cobalt blue color and everything is hand-decorated.
Today, there are many reinterpretations of this classic, but there is nothing like the original Blue Fluted pattern!
2. Blue Flower
Another Royal Copenhagen set that deserves a place on this list is the Blue Flower set. The pattern on these tableware pieces features freshly picked flowers from the Danish countryside, painted in the beautiful cobalt blue that Royal Copenhagen is known for.
The set was created in 1779 as a coffee set but has since been expanded to include a dinner set as well. Today, it is no longer in production but remains a popular set in Danish homes.
3. Blue Line
The Blue Edge faience set is truly timeless! With its simple design in shades of gray and a beautiful blue edge, it can fit into most homes and for most occasions. The set is even really practical, as it is designed with the idea that all parts are stackable!
The elegant set was produced at Royal Copenhagen between 1965 and 2011, and was designed by Grethe Meyer, who has won several design awards, as well as Kay Bojesen and his wife's memorial grant for the set.
4. Seagull Service
The really popular Seagull set was released by Bing & Groendahl and designed by Fanny Garde in 1892. Despite the fact that the set is no longer produced, there is still great interest, also among the younger population!
The Seagull set is charming in true Art Nouveau style, in light colors and of course with a flying seagull on it. The set is available with and without a gold edge, and generally has a lot of different pieces, so there is really something to collect here!
5. Tranquebar
This beautiful set with tulip motif was originally produced by Aluminia's Faience Factory in 1918 and later by Royal Copenhagen between 1969-1995. The set is still highly sought after today, especially by the Japanese.
Tranquebar is mainly available in a beautiful cobalt blue, but also in red, green and brown. - And just like with the Seagull tableware, there is ample opportunity to collect, as many different parts of the set have been produced.
6. Empire
Inspired by Napoleon's coronation as emperor in 1804, the Empire porcelain set is something very special. The set was designed by Harriet Bing and launched in 1904 by Bing & Groendahl. - And the female over-painter is quite special, as at this time it was primarily men who were responsible for decorating porcelain!
The elegant Empire set is a true classic, which is still very popular today!
7. Flora Danica
The last item on this list is a very special gem in Danish porcelain history! Flora Danica is a set with different motifs of Danish and Norwegian flora, originally made for Christian VII from 1790 to 1803. The set was supposed to have been a gift to the Empress Catherine the Great, who unfortunately passed away before the set was finished. Therefore, the set is in the possession of the Danish royal family.
The production of this beautiful set was resumed in 1862 and it is still being produced to this day. However, there are probably not many who can adorn their table with this exclusive set - it is one of the more expensive ones.
