About the item
Bing & Grøndahl Christmas plate 2025 with Grundtvig's Church unites Danish Christmas tradition, architecture and the special blue-and-white porcelain atmosphere that collectors and Christmas plate lovers return to year after year. In this edition, the striking church stands as the natural center of the motif, surrounded by a calm winter street scene, where everyday life continues in the snow on Christmas Eve.
Grundtvig's Church 2025 is created with a fine balance between monumental architecture and small human moments. The church's characteristic facade rises in the middle with its steep lines and almost organ pipe-like forms, while the buildings on both sides lead the eye toward the square in front of the church. At the bottom of the plate, the visible text Christmas Eve 2025 can be seen, which makes this edition clearly identifiable as this year's plate. In the foreground, both children playing in the snow and a small family group on a winter outing can be glimpsed, which adds warmth and movement to the motif.
The motif depicts Grundtvig's Church in Bispebjerg in Copenhagen, built in 1921-1940 in memory of the priest and poet N.F.S. Grundtvig. This particular church is known for its special silhouette and strong presence in the cityscape, and on the Christmas plate it becomes an atmospheric symbol of both festivity, reflection and community. It is a motif that appeals to both Copenhageners, architecture enthusiasts and collectors of Danish Christmas plates.
The edition is designed by Dag Samsund and continues Bing & Grøndahl's proud tradition. The series began in 1895 and was thus the world's first Christmas plate series. Since 1895, a new plate has been released every year, making each edition part of a long and living Danish collector's history. Each Christmas plate was produced in a limited number, and after the last firing of the year, the mold was destroyed, so that the completed edition could not later be put into production again.
This Christmas plate is ideal as a gift idea, collector's item or as an atmospheric part of the Christmas decorations in the home. From 1905 onwards, Bing & Grøndahl's Christmas plates are also suitable for use at the table, and the 2025 edition can therefore also be brought out as a beautiful dessert plate at Christmas time or used for the rest of the year, when you want to set the table with porcelain with history and character.
