Bing & Grøndahl Unrequited love figurine no. 1614 or 406

Unrequited love is one of the Bing & Grøndahl figurines that, with few means, tells a whole little story. The motif shows a girl eagerly leaning in to kiss a boy, while he turns his head away with an almost shy and rejecting expression. This gives the figurine life, humor and a fine human warmth, which makes it more than a classic porcelain figurine.

The composition is charming and easily recognizable with the two children gathered closely in a small scene full of feeling and movement. The girl's long dress and bonnet stand in beautiful contrast to the boy's short blue trousers and simple blouse, and the blue details emphasize the calm, traditional color scheme that many collectors appreciate in older Bing & Grøndahl porcelain. The figurine is made in underglaze, which contributes to the soft and harmonious expression.

The figurine is designed by Ingeborg Plockross-Irminger, who is known for depicting children with great empathy. Here she captures a moment that is both touching and cheerful: budding love, the small rejection and the childlike body language that makes the motif so vivid. It is precisely this narrative quality that makes this children's figurine attractive both for collectors of Bing & Grøndahl figurines and for you who want a porcelain figurine with personality.

Older porcelain figurines like this bring history and soul into the home. They are created to last and deserve to be appreciated and used in today's interior design, where they can stand in a display cabinet, on a shelf or as part of a collection with other children's figurines from Bing & Grøndahl and Royal Copenhagen. It is also an obvious gift idea for the collector or for someone who appreciates Danish design and porcelain with a story.
