About the item
Amalienborg Palace 1914 brings one of Denmark's best-known palace motifs into the classic blue-and-white Christmas tradition from Bing & Grøndahl. On this Christmas plate, the monumental equestrian statue is seen in the foreground, while the palace building rises behind it in the winter darkness. The small stars above the roof give the motif a calm, solemn Christmas atmosphere, where royal history and Danish winter meet in one unified image.

The motif is finely balanced with the striking statue placed centrally in front of the facade, so the plate not only depicts Amalienborg as a building, but also as a symbol of Danish history, tradition and continuity. Precisely for that reason, Amalienborg Palace 1914 is a year edition that appeals both to collectors of Bing & Grøndahl Christmas plates and to those who are fond of royal motifs and classic Danish porcelain design.

This year edition was designed by Th. Larsen and continues the long story of Bing & Grøndahl's Christmas plates, which began as early as 1895 as the world's first Christmas plate series. Since then, a new plate has been released every year, and each year edition has its own title, its own motif and its own place in the history of the series. The 1914 edition appears with the atmospheric depth and fine architectural rendering that have made the old Christmas plates so sought-after through generations.

Like all year editions, this plate was produced in a limited number, and after the year's last firing, the mold was destroyed. Therefore, each year edition constitutes a completed release, which could not later be put into production again. This is an important part of the explanation for the enduring interest in the older Christmas plates from Bing & Grøndahl.

As this Christmas plate is from 1914, it can also be used as a small plate all year round, for example for cake or dessert. During Christmas time, it is naturally especially atmospheric to bring out, but it also looks beautiful in a plate wall or as part of a collection of historical Danish plates. At the same time, it is a sustainable pleasure to give older quality porcelain new life in the home.
