Hackefors Christmas plates with Swedish Christmas motifs since 1969
Hackefors Christmas plates belong to the kind of Christmas decorations that can be brought out year after year when it’s time to decorate for Christmas. Each year has its own motif, and throughout the series you encounter winter landscapes, Christmas preparations, people, and small scenes from the Christmas season.
From Yngve Norberg to Ragnar Carlsson
The first Hackefors Christmas plates from 1969 to 1976 were designed by Yngve Norberg, who is indicated on the plates as Y. Norberg. On the back it says Hackefors Jultallrik, which also shows that the plates were produced in limited quantities and decorated with genuine cobalt.
The motifs change year to year throughout the series. From 1977 to 1999 the motifs were created by Ragnar Carlsson, while the blue decoration remains a characteristic feature.
Over the years, you encounter winter landscapes and scenes from the time leading up to Christmas. You can therefore either choose a specific year or pick the plate with the motif you like best.
Hackefors Julsaga from the year 2000
From the year 2000, the series took on a new expression with Hackefors Julsaga Years 2000-2009. Here the motifs of the years are more connected and tell about the time leading up to Christmas and the Christmas celebration itself.
The different motifs show Christmas preparations and everyday scenes around Christmas, so the plates almost function as small chapters in the same story.

Hackefors Christmas plates with gold
On some Hackefors Christmas plates, the blue decoration is supplemented with gold. This applies, among others, to 1975, when Hackefors released a Gold de Luxe edition in a limited run of 1,500 pieces.
The gold is applied as overglaze and is therefore more delicate than the blue decoration. We therefore recommend that plates with gold be hand washed.
Hackefors Barnets Christmas plates in cobalt blue and gold
Hackefors has also released the series Barnets Christmas plates, designed by Mel Wagner-Koschel and produced for Swedish Tonkin AB.
The plates measure 20 cm in diameter and are decorated in cobalt blue with gold details. The motif changes from year to year, so you can choose by both year and the motif you like best.

How you can use Hackefors Christmas plates
Hackefors Christmas plates can be used both on the table and as decoration in the home. You can combine several different years or choose a single plate to bring out again every Christmas.
Set the Christmas table with different Hackefors Christmas plates
Hackefors Christmas plates, which are decorated only in blue and white without gold, can be used as plates. With a diameter of 20 cm, they are suitable for lunch, cake, and dessert.
For example, you can combine different years on the Christmas table so that each place setting gets its own motif. The blue and white decoration is consistent across the plates, making it easy to mix several years on the same table.
The purely blue and white plates also withstand the dishwasher.
Christmas plates for both collection and wall
Many Hackefors Christmas plates are also made so they can be hung on the wall. Hanging methods vary through the series: the earliest years have glued hangers, while many of the later plates have one or two holes on the back for plate hooks.
You can therefore collect several years on the wall or choose a single Christmas plate with a motif or year that has special significance.
The Hackefors Christmas plate 2006 does not have a hole for hanging but can instead be hung with a separate plate hanger.
