The name of the factory is a composition of the names of the founders; (Joh)annes Pedersen and (Gus)tav Ottesen. Johannes Pedersen had been an apprentice at Hjorth's factories, but in 1944 he opened his own factory on Torvegade in Rønne together with his friend Gustav Ottesen. Later, the factory moved to Zahrtmannsvej.

The factory had a large production of souvenirs, as well as many figures, the casting forms of which had bought over from other factories, so that one can find figures from other factories that are similar to Johgus.
